DIRECTOR: Àngel Martínez Hernáez Ph.D in Cultural Anthropology (UB, 1994). As Chair Professor, he has taken different academic positions at URV and has been Director of DAFITS. Angel has been a visiting/research professor at Univ. of Barcelona, U.C.-Berkeley, UNAM, the Univ. degli Studi di Perugia, and several universities in Brazil. He is advisor, expert, and evaluator of different public bodies, among which are the WHO-Regional Office for Europe and the VI EU Framework Program
CO-DIRECTOR: Francisco Ortega Research Professor in the Catalan Institute of Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA). He is also Visiting Professor at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine of King's College, London. He was full professor at the Institute for Social Medicine of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1999-2021); and Associate Professor at the Federal University of Goiás in Brazil (1996-1999).
SECRETARY: Núria Martorell Secretary of the Department of Anthropology, Philosophy, and Social Work of the Rovira i Virgili University since 1998, she is our person of reference for administrative, organizational and academic support tasks. In addition, she takes on the role of Secretary of the Medical Anthropology Research Center, providing administrative support to the Center since 2013. MARC FOUNDER: Josep M. Comelles Chair Professor of the Dept. of Anthropology since 1977, he is one of the founders of the Tarragona School. Emeritus Professor since 2015, he holds PhD in Anthropology (EHESS, Paris) and Ph.D in Medicine (UB), Bachelors in Philosophy and Arts (Psychology, UB) with specialization in Psychiatry. Josep created the Master in Medical Anthropology and International Health (2006-2014), of the PhD in Medical Anthropology (1994-2000), of founded and was first Director the Medical Anthropology Research Center.
MARC DIRECTOR (2015-2016): Oriol Romaní Ph.D in History (Cultural Anthropology) from the Univ. of Barcelona (1982). He has been Director of DAFITS at URV, Coordinator of the Master in Medical Anthropology and International Health(2006-2010), and of the Interuniversity Master in Youth and Society. He was Coordinator of the IGIA Association and Director of the MARC from 2015 to 2016.
Technical coordinator Claudia Martín González Master's student in Urban Anthropology, Migration, and Social Intervention at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. Graduate in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Complutense University of Madrid (2024).
