«Podem lxs anormals, esdevenir experts?» Talk cycle

The next 28th of April and 26th of May will be held the cycle of talks «Podem lxs anormals, esdevenir experts?» will be held on the value of first-person experiences in the production of health knowledge and dialogues beyond identity policies.

Both sessions will be held at the LGTBI Center of Barcelona at 6:00 p.m. under the titles of "Intersex and non-binary Knowledge for Future habitable Scientists" and "The disputed expertise: profane knowledge and other counterhegemonic intensities in mental health".

Voices of activists, academics, artists, indigenous and often hybrids have long invited us to question what we consider valid knowledge and who has the right to produce it. If Gayatri Spivak wondered can subalternx lxs speak?, Rita Segato reminds us of the colonial violence historically implicit in the attempt to "translate" the stories of other lxs. Following this thread, Paul Preciado shifts the question to the field of health rules that regulate who deserves to be heard when asking: can abnormal lxs become experts?

This cycle of conversations is born from the crossover between two emergencies: on the one hand, to recognize the value of the experience situated as a legitimate source of health knowledge; on the other, to avoid the drift towards an identity closure that condemns us to dialogue within the narrow framework of "only we can talk about us". In a political context in which invitations to close borders proliferate -material and symbolic- we are committed to sustaining practices of knowing that they cross radically.

From a cross-border thinking understood as a thinking-making together and aliadx, in this cycle we call for diverse and intertwined positions -intersex, trans, people with mental suffering, academics, activists and others - to talk about the shared present and the habitable futures. Rather than adding voices, we seek to rehearse ways of knowing how to care that allow us to dispute our own notion of the future: what futures we imagine, for whom, and from which territories can become habitable.
