Registration for the VIII Colloquium of the Medical Anthropology Research Center (MARC) is now open

"Social inequalities, networks and health" will be the central theme of the VIII Colloquium of the Medical Anthropology Research Center (MARC), which will take place from June 5 to 7, 2024 at the Arxiu d`Etnografia de Catalunya, on the Catalunya Campus of the URV.

The event will feature the participation of professors and researchers from different universities who will address and analyze in four thematic discussion tables the impact of poverty and social inequalities on health, the role of social movements, as well as strategies to account for these intersections, as is the case of structural competition and network analysis. There will also be two conferences by renowned experts in the field, such as Jaime Breilh and Seth Holmes.

The meeting will also serve as a framework for holding the Meeting of the Medical and Health Anthropology Network of the Spanish State Anthropology Association (ASAEE).

Social inequalities are the main cause of human morbidity and mortality phenomena, as well as health-seeking processes. Likewise, the way we relate, or not, socially becomes a primary determinant of health/illness/care processes. Aspects such as loneliness, the disadvantaged position of actors in social networks or the way in which socially structural factors cause isolation are fundamental aspects to understand the vulnerability of people to the disease, as well as the obstacles and facilitators in access to health care systems.
