Background
Spanish medical anthropologists have organized numerous colloquia and scientific meetings over the past thirty years. Many of them have been held in Tarragona, at the URV. The first, in 1982, were the First Conferences on Medical Anthropology, which were co-organized with the Institut Catala d'Antropologia.
A decade later, the Departament d'Antropología, Filosofia i Treball Social - DAFITS began organizing new colloquia, first on a biennial basis (Col·loquis Bi-annuals) and, since 2005, on an annual basis (Col·loquis Anuals). These were specialized colloquia under the acronym REDAM, the informal network of medical anthropology that has brought together medical anthropologists for more than a decade.
Congresses and scientific meetings organized by MARC
Since 2015, the Medical Anthropology Research Center (MARC) has held the first colloquia as a continuation of this long tradition of scientific events that began in the 1980s, and which it hopes to continue fully.
