Social Adversity and Challenges

MARC gathers resources and knowledge from different fields, technologies and disciplines, with Medical Anthropology and Applied Medical Anthropology, Social and Human Sciences as central concepts to address the health challenges of our society.

The research fulfills the same approaches outlined in the European Commission's Science with and for Society program, which reflect the priorities outlined in the European 2020 Strategy and the Social Impact criteria, such as:

The grand challenge: The design and societal impact of Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 indicators: Assessing the results and impact of Horizon

Intervention Logic: Horizon2020.

In addition, we follow the criteria set out by the HEIRI (Higher education institutions & responsible research and innovation) and the six policy agendas identified by the European Commission in the RRI (Responsible Research & Innovation): public and social commitment, gender equality, open access, education in the sciences, ethics and governance agreements, with the aim of reducing the gap between the scientific community and society; encouraging joint work among the different actors such as civil society entities, the educational community, the scientific community, leaders in policy,  and the industrial and business sector.

Social Impact Agreement

Our research is valued for their impact in the field of public health policies. Social involvement on the part of professionals is highlighted by practical proposals and intervention, which have helped and help guide the roll out of social and social policies, and their impact on the community.

The technical and methodological diversity of our research staff, our capacity to work in interdisciplinary teams, international networks with other centers, institutes, and professionals, allows the development of research committed and involved in social transformation, taking into account matter such as sustainability, the needs and important issues of individuals and collectives, the economy with a social interest, civic engagement and the responsible utilisation of technology and resources.

We maintain a cross-sectional approach such as equality, human rights, and the right to health.  We are aware that research must have an effect on the strengthening the social sciences on health on a local and global level, with an ethical agreement and commitment to equality through civic engagement and dialogue between experts and the lay community.
